Suicide Warning Signs
It is important to know the warning signs of suicide. The more of these signs a person shows, the greater the risk of suicide.
Talking About:
- Wanting to die
- Feeling hopeless or having no purpose
- Feeling trapped or being in unbearable pain
- Being a burden to others
Changes in Behavior:
- Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs
- Sleeping too little or too much
- Acting anxious, agitated, or reckless
- Withdrawing or feeling isolated
- Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
- Displaying extreme mood swings
- Looking for a way to kill oneself
How to Help
If you have a feeling that someone may be at risk for suicide, it is important to ask directly about suicidal thoughts.
- Talk to them in private
- Listen to their story with no judgement
- Tell them you care about them
